Google is now giving Ultra users of its AI video service a new video generation option that does not consume any additional credits. The model, called “Veo 3.1 – Lite [Lower Priority]”, complements the existing “Veo 3.1 – Fast [Lower Priority]” option and costs zero credits. Veo 3.1 Lite was recently introduced as Google’s cheapest and fastest video model. It costs less than half as much as Veo 3.1 Fast, while, according to Google, delivering the same speed.
On May 10, Google will discontinue the current “Veo 3.1 Fast – Lower Priority” option and replace it with the new “Lite – Lower Priority” option. The regular Veo 3.1 Fast model will remain unchanged, both in terms of availability and pricing. Ultra users already pay for their subscription, and the new option allows them to experiment with more ideas without spending extra credits.
Setting aside powerful Chinese video models, Google has largely had the Western AI video market to itself since OpenAI discontinued Sora. This is where Google’s advantage over OpenAI becomes especially clear: far greater resources, particularly in compute capacity.
