The new model can apply highly accurate edits while preserving fine details and generates images up to four times faster than previous solutions. ChatGPT is also introducing a dedicated “Images” feature, aimed at streamlining and accelerating the creation of illustrations directly within the interface.
The model is already available to all users and via the API under the name GPT Image 1.5. Most users can access the integrated image tools inside ChatGPT today, while availability for enterprise and business customers will follow at a later stage. OpenAI notes that the model handles a wide range of tasks, including adding, removing, combining, blending, and rearranging visual elements.
Earlier, on December 12, OpenAI unveiled GPT-5.2, describing it as the most advanced iteration of the GPT series to date. The model is positioned for professional use and complex workflows, outperforming earlier versions in areas such as table and presentation generation, code writing, long-context comprehension, and advanced tool usage.
In addition, OpenAI confirmed that ChatGPT Images and its short-form AI video platform Sora will support Disney characters. This follows a strategic agreement under which Disney invested $1 billion in OpenAI and granted access to more than 200 characters from the Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars universes starting in 2026. Characters include Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Cinderella, Belle and the Beast, Lilo and Stitch, Simba, and others. Selected videos generated with Sora are also expected to appear on Disney+.
