As reported by AI Wire Media, this was highlighted in an investigation by the British newspaper The Guardian.

According to the newspaper’s findings, some AI-generated medical summaries contain inaccurate information from the very first lines. Medical experts asked to review the AI Overviews content said that several of the recommendations directly contradicted standard clinical guidelines.

“In one case, Google incorrectly advised people with pancreatic cancer to avoid high-fat foods. In another instance, the company provided false information about key liver function tests, which could lead people with serious liver disease to mistakenly believe they are healthy,” the report said.

Google representatives, who were shown the AI-generated texts, stated that the summaries included links to “well-known authoritative sources” and advised users to consult medical professionals. They also emphasized that the vast majority of AI Overviews content was “accurate and helpful.”

“If AI Overviews misinterprets web content or omits important context, the company will take action in accordance with its policies,” The Guardian quoted Google as saying.
