South Korea reportedly spends more per month on AI subscriptions than on Netflix. According to Hankyung Aicel, payments for seven AI services such as ChatGPT and Gemini reached an estimated 80.3 billion won in December 2025 (around €50–55 million) — more than the average monthly Netflix subscription fees in Korea in 2024 of 75 billion won (around €45–50 million). However, the AI figure also includes corporate payments, while Netflix is a consumer-only service.
Credit card payments rose from 52,000 (January 2024) to 1.666 million (December 2025). On average, private customers paid 34,700 won (roughly €20–25), while companies paid 107,400 won (roughly €60–75). ChatGPT accounted for 71.5% of payments, ahead of Gemini (11.0%) and Claude (10.7%). Hankyung Aicel CEO Kim Hyung-min said the Korean subscription market remains in growth mode, and generative AI is establishing itself as a standard subscription product.
For comparison, Netflix reports an average revenue per subscription of about $7 in Asia-Pacific, versus roughly $17 in the US/Canada — meaning significantly higher revenue per subscriber per month in the latter region.
