According to media reports, Meta is working on a text-based model codenamed “Avocado” and an image-and-video model called “Mango.” Following criticism of Meta’s Llama 4 model, CEO Mark Zuckerberg restructured the company’s AI leadership and established a new laboratory. Bosworth described 2025 as an “extremely chaotic year” for building the new infrastructure.
Speaking more broadly about AI development at an Axios event, Bosworth noted that for everyday tasks, improvements between model generations—such as from GPT-4 to GPT-5—are becoming less noticeable. However, he emphasized that specialized applications, including legal analysis, healthcare, and personalization, continue to show significant progress. For this reason, he believes that the industry’s massive investments in AI remain justified in the long term.
Meta is moving faster in AI and already sees results from its new team. While everyday AI feels more stable, real breakthroughs are now happening in specialized and professional use cases.
