With the new integration, Xcode can operate with a much higher level of autonomy to help developers achieve their goals — from breaking tasks into steps to making decisions based on a project’s architecture and using built-in tools.
The AI agents can search documentation, analyze file structures, update project settings, and visually review their own work.
“At Apple, our goal is to create tools that give developers access to cutting-edge technologies so they can build the very best apps,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations.
She added that programming with AI agents significantly boosts productivity and creativity by streamlining the development workflow.
The interface for interacting with the digital assistant is located on the left side of the screen. Using natural-language commands, developers can ask the AI to create a new project or modify an existing one. The agent then generates a plan and begins executing it.
The system keeps a detailed log of its actions, allowing developers to review changes and roll them back if necessary.
Xcode 26.3 also integrates the Model Context Protocol (MCP) — an open standard that “gives developers the flexibility to use any compatible agent or tool.”
