Codex Security — a new AI tool designed for automated code security reviews — will be distributed selectively, according to OpenAI. Due to the capabilities of GPT-5.4, access to the tool will be evaluated individually and granted only in specific cases.

Developers who prefer alternative programming tools such as OpenCode, Cline, or OpenClaw can also apply for the program. Projects that may not meet all formal criteria but still play an important role in the broader software ecosystem are also encouraged to submit applications.

The initiative builds on the existing Codex Open Source Fund, which OpenAI previously funded with $1 million.
