One feature, animated photos, adds motion effects to static images. The subject can appear to wave, form a heart gesture, or wear a virtual party hat. Meta recommends using sharp portrait photos where the person looks directly into the camera. Users can upload images straight from their photo library, and Meta plans to add more animation variants over the next year.

Facebook is also upgrading Stories (short photo/video posts that disappear after 24 hours) and Memories (which resurfaces posts from the same date in prior years).

The flagship addition is Restyle, powered by Meta AI. The tool lets users transform uploaded photos by adjusting lighting, changing color tones, or fully replacing backgrounds. Users can apply a preset or enter a text prompt to generate a new look.
