Record-breaking deal

The domain was listed for sale in March 2025 for $100 million. The transaction closed in April, with Arsian Ismail as the seller. In a press release, the acquisition was described as the largest purchase of a website domain in history.

For context, CarInsurance.com was bought in 2010 for $49.7 million, and in late 2024 OpenAI acquired Chat.com for $15.5 million.

Historically, Cars.com has been cited as one of the most valuable domain names after it was recorded as an intangible asset worth $872.3 million in a 2014 merger transaction.

After the deal closed, the team spent the following months building the product. The official launch took place on February 8, 2026, on the day of the Super Bowl.

The future of AI agents

The initiative aims to accelerate progress toward artificial general intelligence (AGI) by creating a decentralized network of autonomous, self-improving AI agents.

“With a few clicks, anyone can create a personal assistant that not only answers questions, but actually acts on the user’s behalf—organizing work, sending messages, performing actions in apps, creating projects, and more,” the company said in its announcement.

A key feature of the system is that digital assistants can build missing functions on their own to solve tasks. These improvements are then scaled across the network, increasing the effectiveness of other assistants.

As examples, the company cited use cases such as stock trading, workflow automation, planning and executing daily tasks, and updating a dating profile. All operations are carried out with privacy preserved and under user control.

“Agents operate in a secure, protected environment where data is separated and encrypted using user-specific keys, and assistants are limited by the permissions of their users,” AI.com said.

Marszalek will serve as CEO of the new project.

Marszalek’s branding playbook

The AI.com purchase fits Marszalek’s established strategy of making large brand-defining investments.

Crypto.com launched in 2016 under the name Monaco, after which Marszalek acquired the matching domain for $5–10 million. The company later signed a $700 million deal to rename the Staples Center in Los Angeles to Crypto.com Arena, and spent $100 million on an ad campaign featuring Matt Damon.
