To activate the feature, users must publish a public post beginning with the phrase “Dear Algo,” specifying the types of content they want to see more of. The mechanism resembles prompt-based interactions with chatbots such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

“Once a user shares a request, the service adjusts their feed for three days to keep them up to date with the most relevant discussions,” Meta representatives said.

Users can also repost another person’s Dear Algo request to apply those content preferences to their own feed.

“We want Dear Algo to make Threads more personal — whether you’re following trending topics or exploring niche interests. It’s another way to help you discover conversations that truly matter,” the company stated in a blog post.

The feature has launched in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, with expansion to additional markets planned.

AI at the Core of Meta’s Strategy

The rollout aligns with Meta’s broader strategy to integrate artificial intelligence across its product ecosystem. In February, the company introduced new AI-driven personalization features on Facebook, including animated avatars, photo stylization tools for Stories and Memories, and dynamic backgrounds for text posts.

To support these initiatives, Meta plans to increase capital expenditures on AI infrastructure to between $115 billion and $135 billion — nearly double last year’s spending.

Threads, launched in July 2023 as a competitor to X, reported 400 million monthly active users last month alongside a global rollout of advertising. In January 2026, CEO Mark Zuckerberg reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding AI experimentation amid ongoing investments in data centers and computing capacity.
